File this under cry me a river
“We’ve been accused of being in bed with the banks. To say that to a group of people who have spent the last seven to 10 years fighting mortgage abuses day in and day out is an insult of the highest order,” said Iowa Assistant Attorney General Patrick Madigan, a longtime Miller deputy, who has worked on major settlements with subprime lenders such as Countrywide and Ameriquest. “It’s just unreal.”
I guess Miller's office has a real problem when the entire New York Democratic congressional delegation chides him for tossing Schneiderman out of the talk's executive committee. Instead of responding to Jerrold Nadler et alia, Miller is running to the press to complain about his unilateral, pro-bank actions coming under scrutiny.
The reason Miller is being accused of being in bed with banks is because that's what you call it when you raise more than $250,000 from the finance industry right after announcing that you're leading a 50 state investigation into that same industry. It happens when you then shift from guaranteeing to "put people in jail," to producing a settlement term sheet before you even sat down to negotiate with the banks. It happens when you kick the individual who has done more to ensure that there is actually investigation before a settlement off the executive committee for having the temerity to try to get the best deal possible. If Tom Miller's office doesn't like being accused of being in bed with banks, he should get out of the bed and start investigating the banks.

You know who the real victim is here? Not consumers that the banksters committed fraud against, nope, it's Tom Miller. Seriously.
More below the fold
No, really, this is piss poor.
Another person close to the talks, who like several others spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the situation more freely, said many in the group are “just exasperated. . . . This smear campaign of lies and innuendo, it’s uncalled for, it’s unprecedented, and it threatens substantial consumer harm.”
Replace smears with truth and innuendo with fact. And it's completely called for.
Because if the cover up of Wall Streets massive crimes against homeowners doesn't go through, you know who the real victims will be? That's right, consumers. Letting Wall Street forge documents doesn't hurt consumers, telling consumers that Wall Street is forging documents and breaking the law and forcing accountability on those law breakers is what will hurt consumers. Plus, down is the new up.
Nothing hurts consumers more than forging documents and kicking them out of their homes over nothing. Just look at the list of fraudulent behavior that the AG of Nevada is charging Bank of America with after the broke their deal with State AG's.
The depth of the breach is breathtaking:
For example, the complaint says the bank advised credit reporting agencies that consumers were in default on their mortgages when they were not, and contends that Bank of America employees deceived borrowers about why their requests to modify loans were denied. In addition, it says, the bank falsely claimed that the actual owners of loans had refused to allow changes to their mortgages, and it incorrectly claimed that borrowers had failed to make payments on trial loan modifications when in fact they had. Bank of America also misled borrowers, the Nevada attorney general’s filing noted, by offering loan modifications with one set of terms only to come back with a substantially different deal.
Among the more troubling findings in the Nevada complaint is the contention by several Bank of America employees that the company imposed strict limits on the amount of time they could spend on the phone assisting troubled borrowers seeking help with their loans. [emphasis added]
It's like having your cake, then breaking into your neighbor's house, stealing their cake, forging documents to foreclose on their house, and eating it too!
And they wonder why we think they are on the take?
Maybe the best way to look like you aren't in bed with the banksters is to punish their crimes under the law, instead of giving them a sweetheart deal that makes their illegality go away forever while they carry on with their FRAUD and get a slap on the wrist for their crimes, which are still ongoing.
As far as Tom Miller and his poor, hurt feelings go, well he cry me a river. The banksters robbed us and Iowa AG Tom Miller and a bunch of other crooked State AG's are helping them get away with it, with help from AG Holder and the White House. We are defending Eric Shneiderman because he is doing the right thing, and we are calling Tom Miller a crook who is in bed with the banks because he is a crook who is in bed with the banks. If he doesn't want to be called a corporate stooge, maybe he should try not being a massive corporate stooge, but until then . . .
Peace and love to all
