Once again, I have an excuse to embed this video:
And yes, you read that right. The GOP will NOT have an official rebuttal to Obama's Thursday speech. For once, we won't have to hear some guy get the spotlight after the speech to spout platitudes with absolutely no substance.
From ABC News:
Tuesday evening’s announcement that neither House Speaker John Boehner nor Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell would name an individual to deliver an official GOP response to the president’s speech met with swift push back, with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., calling the GOP’s decision “not only disrespectful to [President Obama] but to the American people.
Republicans claim that they will speak with the reporters in Statuary Hall afterwards and share some opinions, but so can Democrats so it's not really a rebuttal so much as on-the-spot Q&A's.
Here's more of Pelosi's response to this decision:
“In nearly 250 days of being in the majority, House Republicans have not passed a single piece of legislation to create jobs,” Pelosi said Tuesday night in a statement. “The Republican silence on Thursday evening will speak volumes about their lack of commitment to creating jobs.”
I am guessing that the GOP doesn't want to get panned for yet another phoned-in rebuttal, but that's just my opinion. What do you think?
I frankly am just relieved that for once we don't have to listen to some guy in Congress say the President follow a speech with a sh** sandwich of Borg-like talking points.
