I have nothing but solidarity with Daily Kos' black community from what I have experienced trying to tamp down antisemitism at this site.
What is Kos thinking? How could he possibly think that sanctioning those who fight against bigotry was a good idea??
I am 110% on board with this boycott.
Just to reference my own experience, a few months ago I participated in drafting a letter detailing the very significant problem with the perpetuation of antisemitic memes on this website. Literally the very same memes that have been used to encourage the hatred and murder of Jewish people for centuries. We were told at the time that the former moderator would work with us to improve the situation. And there were a number of bannings of low profile users at the beginning, one particularly odious antisemitic website was banned as a source, and recently two of the worst offenders were banned. So there was something thrown our way, and I acknowledge that.
But overall, there has been too little improvement on this front. Comments and diaries here still routinely 1) accuse Jewish Americans of dual loyalty or disloyalty to America, 2) Imply that Jewish interests control the government and/or the media, and 3) Promote Holocaust revisionism.
A few of the people who raised their voices loudest against the perpetuation of these memes have now had their ratings abilities pulled.
Meanwhile I see people who are very obvious trolls who are full on TU and throwing HRs and recs like there is no tomorrow. All while some of the best long time users are now "NR". Something is really wrong here. Kos, you need to fix this. Please hire a full time moderator to remove the bigotry, and have pretty clear rules about what is bannably and sanctionably offensive. 'Community moderation' doesn't work and quit trying to pretend that it does. And you should restore the former mojo of the people you NR-d.
I''m joining the boycott in hopes that it will result in a Daily Kos where racism, antisemitism, and other forms of hate speech are vanquished.
