O rly?
Rand Paul must know of some other "the poor" than I do.
After Senator Bernie Sanders spoke at a Senate hearing titled "Is poverty a death sentence" Rand Paul had an epic hissy fit in which he made the case that poverty doesn't exist and is only a third world problem. Citing the magical land of make believe as proof of his claims, he went on to explain that “the rich are getting richer, but the poor are getting richer even faster.” and further stated that anyone who disagrees with Rand Paul, of course, is advocating for "Socialism" and "Tyranny"
Citing the deficit as a primary priority, Paul questioned whether federal low-income programs are “creating unnecessary and unhealthy dependence on government.” He unequivocally declared that “poverty is not a state of permanence” and that “the rich are getting richer, but the poor are getting richer even faster.”
PAUL: We also need to understand that poverty is not a state of permanence. When you look at people in the bottom 5th of the economic ladder — those at the bottom — only 5 percent are there after 16 years. People move up, the American dream does exist…The rich are getting richer, but the poor are getting richer even faster.

Liars always try to figure, but figures never lie.
Now, unless the years after 2007 were amazing for the poor and no one told me about it, I think Rand Paul is full of shit.
More below the fold
And here I was thinking how America has gone to shit since Bush v Gore, and how the rich have gotten tremendously richer while I and all my friends have gotten poorer. Turns out I was wrong. In reality, according to Rand Paul, I am getting richer so fast I am leaving rich people in the dust, and that isn't fair to rich people. I should have known better. I thought being near destitute in this jobless economy while living on a steady diet of Ramen noodles and shattered dreams and what feels like struggling against a corrupt and broken financial system was a bad thing. Apparently, I have it better than ever.
ThinkProgress.org does a great job of using facts to dispute Rand Paul's wildly out of touch claims. ThinkProgress even states "First of all, (the) notion that the poor are getting richer faster than the rich requires an impressive level of ignorance.
In Rand Paul's world, the poor have it better than ever, and anyone who tries to use facts to disagree or use democracy to allow the poor to outnumber the rich and govern America in their best interests believes in "Tyranny". And here it was that I thought that tyranny was when one person or a small group of people imposed their will on everyone else. Apparently, when a majority of people in our Democracy disagree with Rand Paul, that is tyranny. Up is down.
So why talk about the effects of poverty and the President's Jobs bill when we should be talking deficits, specifically that part of spending that poor people don't need. Jobs? Who needs jobs? Besides, they are plenty of jobs out there, just go get em! So saith Rand Paul, super genius. Strap on your jobs helmet and get into the jobs cannon for jobland, boys and girls!
Summing up his thesis, Paul said, “Rather than bemoan or belabor something [poverty] that is really truly something that is overwhelmingly being treated in our country, we should maybe give more credit to the American system, the American dream, and give credit to what capitalism has done to eradicate poverty in this country.”
ThinkProgress.org
Unregulated capitalism isn't eradicating poverty, it is making poverty more widespread. To state otherwise is either a lie or the active use of "an impressive level of ignorance".
Apparently poverty is a myth to Republicans, just like global warming and evolution. Just pretend it isn't happening and it will all go away. In Rand Paul's world there is a class war and the poor innocent rich people who fund his campaigns are the real victims, they can't even compete with the poor, and that isn't fair, so we should take more public services and funding away from the poor and working class, who are being "coddled" by our out of control tyrannical government.
Yup, corporations and rich people aren't coddled by our government, they don't owe the government anything, it is poor people and working class people who get all the breaks.
Also, trickle down works and social security is a ponzi scheme, but Wall Street is not an ongoing crime scene.
Of course, I award Rand Paul no points, and we are all dumber for having listened to him.
The homeless people I meet on the street are going to be thrilled to hear this.
Despite what Ron Paul's idiot son says, there are no jobs and poverty sucks, and it is getting worse, not better. I am sooo close to being able to pay my rent and get by for the rest of this month. If you'd like to support my writing and help me out, please make a contribution via Paypal. . .
