(White House)
Here's some
good news on the policy front for the administration.
Vice President Biden on Wednesday announced billions in savings from the Obama administration's efforts to cut waste and fraud throughout the federal government, senior White House and agency officials told reporters.[...]
Biden met with several Cabinet secretaries about developments within their departments and to discuss new initiatives that include slashing more than $2 billion in waste from Medicaid over five years, helping states reduce improper payments in the unemployment insurance program and further streamlining operations as part of the administration’s Campaign to Cut Waste, created in June by an executive order.[...]
White House officials said HHS will apply the framework from the Medicare Recovery Audit Contractor program to Medicaid, providing an estimated savings of about $2.1 billion over five years by catching or stopping improper payments, returning about $900 million of that to the states. The Medicare program has recovered $668 million in improper payments to date in 2011, officials said.
Excellent job. More of that, please. Enough of this and they leave benefit cuts out of the mix.
