I had a DAY, boys & girls, so I don't have much in the way of a snappy introduction - sorry!
Let's get historical in "this day in history." On September 15, 1963, four black girls were killed when a bomb went off during Sunday services at a Baptist church in Birmingham, Alabama, in the deadliest act of the civil rights era. When Jesus said (to paraphrase) "Suffer the little children to come unto me," I don't think this horrible act is what He had in mind.
In a more happy realm, a couple of proverbial Hollywood "heavy weights" are eligible for Social Security & Medicare (pre - Rep. Ryan butchered version) because they are 65 today! Wish a happy birthday to Tommy Lee Jones & Oliver Stone!
Let's Countdown...
Thanks again to David Shuster for pinch - hitting for Keith tonight!
#5 "Just Saying No" - The GOBP "leadership" & some Dems are coming out against the American Jobs Act. Speaker Sobber Small Price to Pay Goldilocks wants only GOBP "job creators" to have a plan. Senator Jim Webb ain't crazy about the Act. Much of Dem angst might be linked to President Obama's recent slide in approval numbers, but Rep. Nancy Pelosi is poo - pooing the narrative of a split within the Dems. President Obama will not make changes to Social Security, so THAT'S a good development. Medicare & Medicaid, however, are still on the chopping block. James Carville wants President Obama to begin firing people. Right...Brian Beutler gets angst duty. Mr. Mary Matlin called Bill Richardson a "Judas" when he endorsed Barack Obama over Mrs. Clinton, so Mr. Matlin's opinion means nothing to me. The most politically popular & direct job creation proposal involves rebuilding schools; what we'll probably GET is more payroll tax cuts. Well, since the GOBP is the anti - smarts party now, they won't want schools fixed! Daniel Gross gets to look at the economics & job angle of payroll tax cuts & other ways to pay for the Act. Money to states & infrastructure spending will be the most direct route to more hiring, according to him. The GOBP only wants to change the regulatory environment. When DON'T they want to change the regulatory environment?! Continuing pressure from President Obama and businesses might move this Act along.
#4 "Risky Business" AKA "With a Perry on Top" - Governor Secession went to dinner with Trump the Rump at a cheese - eating - surrender - monkey high - price restaurant. He still doesn't like Social Security & the government. If he doesn't like government, why does he want to be POTUS? He got a cool amount of campaign coin from big pharm. Nia Malika Henderson's been on the road with Governor Secession?! She deserves battle pay & delousing spray! Governor Secession was at Liberty University; talk about your gruesome twosome! *&^%$#@! President Obama fares better in polls against Governor Secession than he does against Mittens Romney. Nia thinks these big pharm connections might actually be an issue further on down the line in a "pay for play" culture. He's all for transparency except for where he goes, how he spends his time, and how much it costs TX taxpayers.
"24 Hours of Reality" - Current TV presented sort of an Inconvenient Truth on steroids over a 24 - hour period to try to combat climate change deniers. Huh, I listened to George Carlin's take on "saving the planet" on the way home tonight. ;D Again, environmental stuff is not my shtick; I've got more immediate concerns on my mind - like not going more mental because of my job, paying bills, etc.
#3 "Shady Trader?" - Every time I hear UBS, I think Network - not finances. ;D Some trader made a whole lot of $$ disappear, but he liked to par - tay! Matt Taibbi must feel like he needs a shower A LOT covering the financial industry. There's been no risk assessment anywhere in any financial industry, so we've gotten what we've gotten economy - wise since 2008. The preservation of Glass - Steagal would've prevented all this crap. This UBS scandal couldn't have come at a worse time as far as what's going on in Europe these days. The dynamic of both political parties being under the thumb of big finance ain't gonna change anytime soon, either. Yahoo! *&^%$#@! Some of the Dodd - Frank bill - especially concerning whistle blowers - is a good thing, but it didn't really do much to control the industry, according to Matt.
#2 "Islamophobia" AKA "Muslim Malign" - Huh, me thinks someone somewhere might have been watching Rachel's show last night; here's the Spencer Ackerman stuff about the FBI learning about Muslims from Muslim "experts."
#1 "Baked Alaska?" AKA "Palintology" - So, have y'all heard about the Joe McGinnis book about $aint $arah from Wasilla? We hear about sex & drugs, I guess; hell, we just need to hear about rock - n - roll now! Katie Halper gets "that woman" duty. $aint $arah had a fling with Glenn Rice while he played basketball at UM? Hee...hee... ;D Could these revelations make her more likable? I'm not so sure about that; it all just makes her look even more like a hypocrite.
