Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann's story about a woman who claimed that her daughter suffered "mental retardation" after receiving a vaccine against HPV could fetch the woman's family thousands of dollars. But the family can only collect if Bachmann or the unnamed woman can prove the story is true. Two bioethics professors have offered to pay more than $10,000 for medical records that prove the anecdote Bachmann told after Monday night's Republican presidential debate is true, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Perry described how “all through life there have been these supernatural events” of God sending him signals, providing one example where God sent a “real clear message” to him by using rain to stop him from leaving Texas. “You go through my life and there have been so many of those events that occurred and I don’t get confused, it wasn’t coincidence,” Perry explained, “it was God’s hands on my life, guiding me in the ways He wanted me to be, and I truly believe He has me here at a time such as this."
Is the House GOP waging war against energy efficient lightbulbs in its own building? The hallway on the first floor of the House Cannon building on Capitol Hill was noticeably brighter than the second floor for most of the day today. That's because the Architect of the Capitol is replacing modern energy-efficient 150-watt lightbulbs (photo to left) with traditional 250-watt lightbulbs because an unknown member of Congress complained.

"I think it was last weekend I was watching C-SPAN, and I saw Vice President Dick Cheney and he was being asked questions about a whole host of issues -- following 9/11, the affairs in various countries in the world. And I listened to him speak and said whether you agree or disagree with him, this a man of wisdom and judgment, and he could have been president of the United States," Romney told the crowd to their loud approval. "That's the kind of person I'd like to have -- a person of wisdom and judgment." That answer came to a question about whether Romney would name a "Tea Party person" as his vice presidential nominee. Romney demurred, saying only that his one "overwhelming criteria" for a VP choice, should he be lucky enough to make one, would be that that person is ready to become president, as he felt Cheney was.

Republican Senate nominee George Allen just tried to score points against his expected Democratic opponent Tim Kaine by attacking Kaine’s Chicago fundraiser…right before Allen got on a plane and headed to California to raise his own money. Here’s what Allen told reporters and customers in a Charlottesville, VA barbershop last week, according to the local Daily Progress: “While I’m here in Charlottesville, at Staples Barber Shop, he’s up in Chicago with President Obama’s big money bundlers, in Chicago, and I’d rather be here at Staples Barber Shop … and in touch with the folks here.”

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) said President Obama is practicing "venture socialism" with his jobs proposal. The conservative Tea Party favorite played off the term "venture capitalism" in criticizing Obama's choices for improving the economy. "I would love to be able to work with the president on something, but he's basically practicing what we call venture socialism. He's basically taken the approach where it's the government that needs to stimulate jobs," DeMint said Wednesday on Fox News' "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren."

Uh huh. And Jim DeMint is practicing what we call stupidity.
