I'm not sure how much you are hearing down there about Dick Cheney's visit to the "true north strong and free" so I thought I would fill you in on his Canadian adventure.
The little criminal is here to promote his new book, "My Way: How I Really Ran the Country, Not Bush". Oops, that should be "In My Time: A Personal and Political Memoir."
Cheney was met in Vancouver by protesters waving placards. They also chanted slogans, banged drums and blew whistles as suckers, er, guests, entered a posh club for their $500 a plate dinner. Even in Canadian funds, that's a lot to pay to dine with a wanted man, don't you think?
Next it was on to Calgary where he was welcomed with chants of "Detain Dick" and other slogans and a banner that read,“War Criminal Dick Cheney Is Not Welcome in Canada." Protesters carried signs, my favourite of which read, "HE SHOT HIS BUDDY IN THE FACE". That one pretty much says it all, doesn't it?
I wonder if he knows that the Mayor of Calgary, Naheed Nenshi, is a Muslim who recently led the Gay Pride parade.
With luck, it will be a while before Cheney steps foot on our soil again. But if he does, I hope he will get a similar reception. I think he will, because as it says in our National anthem, "We stand on guard for thee". Which translated means, "we don't like lying, smarmy, war-mongering jerks thank-you very much."
