There's always something going on in Texas to benefit the 1%. Today I read this from the Tax Assessor/Collector for my county:
New Simplified Vehicle Registration Fee Structure
Beginning September, 1, 2001 a new standardized fee structure simplifies registration fees for nearly every vehicle owner in Texas. . .
[name of county] residents with a passenger vehicle or truck weighing less than 6000 will pay an average of $64.25. This is a reduction of about $8.00 from the previous registration fee for new vehicle owners and an increase of about $10 for those with older vehicles. This is the first change to the Texas base vehicle registration fee since 1985.

Now let's get this straight - you people who are holding onto those old cars will be paying more to make sure those with new cars can pay less. Sounds about right for Texas.
