We Will Occupy
On Monday, October 10, 2011, 10,000 people marched from Boston Common to Dewey Square to the North Washington Bridge in support of Occupy Boston and to demand fundamental and lasting economic and political reform.. At the same time, Occupy Boston expanded to an adjoining section of the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy to accommodate the many hundreds of people who come daily to join the occupation. This peaceful expansion was undertaken to make a place for everyone in our movement.
At approximately 18:00 the Boston Police Department informed Occupy Boston that if they did not clear the site by nightfall, they would be forcibly removed. In response, Occupy Boston has issued a renewed call for any and all people to join the occupation as soon as possible. From the beginning, occupiers have worked tirelessly to maintain a positive working relationship with city officials. Today’s threats by the Boston Police Department represent a sudden shift away from that dialogue. Since making camp on September 30, Occupy Boston has maintained that it will non-violently resist any attempt to end the protest before we have achieved the change we seek.
The outpouring of public support demonstrates that Occupy Boston’s message of bringing economic reform to Wall Street and ending the influence of special interests on government. This message has resonated nationwide. According to a recent poll by Rasmussen, 79% of Americans agree with the occupiers that “The big banks got bailed out but the middle class got left behind.” Rasmussen also reported that the movement boasts higher favorability ratings than Congress or the Tea Party.
Occupy Boston stands united with over 120 similar Occupy protests, which have sprung up across the nation since Occupy Wall Street began just over three weeks ago. We seek the restoration of the social rights to housing, healthcare and education. We demand an end to the endemic, international corruption of our legislative bodies by corporate interests. Speaking only the words we have been taught, we ask for freedom, justice, and equality. We will be satisfied with nothing less.
“We are the 99 percent and we are no longer silent.”

Colleges Occupy Boston Proves to Be a United Front
When students from Boston University marched in as a united front, the crowd on the Boston Common started cheering. “We are the 99 percent,” they chanted, urging everyone to move forward and hold their signs high for the public to see.
On its tenth day, the Occupy Boston movement is still going strong, and students have now joined in and started participating. Today, nearly 20 area schools were represented on the Common, including Harvard University, the various branches of the University of Massachusetts, Northeastern University, Tufts University and the Museum School of Fine Arts.

Occupy Boston needs your Support Tonight!
Posted on October 10, 2011 by JPo
Police are gathering in mass to remove Occupy Boston campers from the North Camp expansion and possibly from the Main Camp tonight at midnight, by force if necessary. We are calling for all able-bodied volunteers to come lock arms with us in solidarity and defend this Occupation from any police presence that may arrive. Please write the number for the National Lawyers Guild, 617-227-7335 on your body as well as a personal contact, and in the event of your arrest call a family member or other trusted contact with that information so the NLG can represent you.

11:55 Jeff Smith, who is doing press outreach for Occupy in NY, writes to me: “Ben Jealous stopped by Liberty Plaza on Friday night. He was here to consider throwing support of NAACP behind OWS. He told me the protest reminded him of when he was thrown out of Columbia for attending a political protest fifteen years ago. \
“Even more people sleeping in the park tonight than last night, which was packed. Tomorrow, from 12p-3p about fifty city teachers will be bringing their students to OWS for a massive teach-in. Grades 2-7.”
6:29pm: From Kevin Gosztola at The Dissenter.
Between five to ten media trucks are here parked. CNBC has setup a station where occupiers can walk up and speak and be recorded for their broadcast at any point during the day. There are photographers all over the park. There are people with video cameras and they are talking to everyone in the park.

4:53 PM Three arrests today in Liberty Park — two of them had cameras. One was working for a British press agency and the other was taking photos of police badges.
4:47 PM Protesters can stay in Liberty Park indefinitely, says Bloomberg. But that’s because he expects the snow will bring an end to the occupation. Also, taxpayers likely footing the bill for much of the security so the city’s plan is to just turn New Yorkers against the occupiers. The dull roar of New Yorkers saying, “You made your point, now go home,” and other variations that likely include profanity and slurs seems imminent.

Occupy Wall Street: “They have taken to the street to lead themselves.”
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, in a shocking announcement designed to force the mass layoffs of city workers (at least by his own description), has decided that Occupy Wall Street protesters can stay indefinitely in Zuccotti Park. I don’t know that this is totally his decision to make, but it generally means that the police won’t be rounding people up from the park, and that the core protest in the growing movement will be able to continue as long as the protesters want. Already, within weeks of the beginning of the occupation, half the country has heard about the protests.
Indefensible Wall Street Profits Soared While Wage Earners Slipped
4:41pm: Salon:
Dems backing Occupy Wall St. are funded by Wall St.
The irony is that the same elected Democrats singing the praises of Occupy Wall Street are themselves major recipients of money from … Wall Street!
[ ... ]
Take the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), the party organization that collects money for House races around the country. It is now soliciting signatures (along with email addresses for its database) for a petition in support of Occupy Wall Street.
[ ... ]
But the DCCC has sucked up cash from Wall Street as much as any entity in politics. The DCCC received $4.6 million from the securities and investment industry in the 2010 cycle. In the 2008 cycle, the DCCC took in $6.4 million from the securities industry [ ... ]
[ ... ]
In the current election cycle, Pelosi has raised more money — $105,000 — from the securities and investment crowd than from any other industry.

Tensions rising in ‘Occupied’ Hub
Relations between the city, police and the movement’s members have been amicable thus far, but Menino, for the first time since the Occupy Boston began, said yesterday there’s a limit on how long the demonstration should last.

10:42pm: Livestream is showing something going on with the police. Arrests.
- "Are they being arrested?"
- "Not yet"
- "Are they being detained?"
- "Not yet"
- "If they're not being detained they are free to walk away"
- Someone is being searched against a white van. This is happening at the corner of Broadway and Liberty.
- Crowd chanting "Free Nathan" or "Free Nation", I can't tell. Now crowd is chanting "Let them go!"
- Somebody says they are being arrested for taking pictures. That would be pretty bizarre because there were thousands of people there yesterday and it seemed like half of them were taking pictures.
- a few blue shirts, two white shirts
- Now everyone is walking down Liberty Street, crowd crossing Broadway out of the park, along Liberty, passing the big red cube sculpture
- now they're gathering around a police car. Some asking "are these people under arrest?" No answer. Chanting "let them go!" Louder now.
- Police have two different guys by the arm but they are not handcuffed. Crowd chanting "Shame!"
- Lots of people crowding around. Police telling them to back up
- Police car pulling away now, people in the back, I think it's the two guys. I missed them being put into the car. It must have happened on the other side.
- Crowd is angry with the remaining police. They're saying they were arrested for taking pictures. Tons of cameras. Crowd following police back to the park.
- Person with livestream camera speaking to a woman: "Three people arrested in the last half hour. One person arrested for using chalk on the sidewalk and two were arrested for taking pictures."
- One person arrested was a woman. "She was scared"
- Man in crowd: "they didn't charge them with anything, they didn't read them their rights, they just took them away and now they're gone"
- One of the crowd: "This is the name of the officer without a badge number." Holds up a piece of paper with this name "Konstanding"
- There are news vans there. Can see an ABC news van.
- Livestream camera person talking to NYPD TARU: Asks what they were charged with. They tell him to find the CPI, community relations cops. Then he asks them "the guy in white shirt was asked his badge number and he said he didn't have one... Lts. don't have badge numbers?"
Livestream goes back to broadcasting footage from last night.
