Day 10 of the Itzl Halloween Project.
I have come to realize that Itzl has for more than 21 costumes. He has far more than 31 costumes. He could costumes all the extra Chihuahuas from Beverly Hills Chihuahua and probably still have costumes left over.
And yet, he wears them all more than once. Some are favorites that he's worn a dozen times. Not one of his costumes has been unworn.
Fortunately for him, he can still do his job however he may be clothed.
This morning was chilly - 57ºF - and he decided he would carry on the theme from yesterday, where he dressed as a Chicken Dog. Today, he decided to be a Bone Dog.
Don't tell me dogs don't have a sense of humor. Chicken Dog yesterday, Bone Dog today = Chicken Bone Dog. Or possibly Soup Bone Dog, since Friday nights are when we make the sandwiches we distribute early Saturday mornings, and when it gets cold, we make soup to hand out. Perhaps he's telling me it's time to add soup to the sandwiches.
Regardless of the secondary message he sends with his costume choices, he is ever alert and vigilant to do his job.
Here, he alerts on the phone ringing. Since I don't have the computer booted up yet and it's technically before my work hours begin, I let it go to voice mail.
I make him much happier when I pay attention to his alert on the door.
He "rattles his bones" in joy when I respond to an alert. I can't get a picture of that because it blurs and all anyone sees is a smudge instead of a working dog.
I've finally convinced him that he doesn't have to alert on each sound at Occupy OKC. That doesn't stop him from alerting on sounds he thinks are either unusual or important. Back up beeps are top of his list, especially since the bench where we normally sit is both right beside the street and right across from a parking garage so there's always at least one truck backing up right there.
Last night, there was only 1 truck that backed up. But. They turned on the sound system much earlier and apparently it took them a while to defeat the microphone feedback. I could tell, because each time it buzzed (or whatever it sounds like), he would flinch, jump, and stare fixedly at the stage area. Once they fixed the feedback, he'd relax.
We will return tonight, as well. And tomorrow for a while, but tomorrow is the Steampunk Halloween Tea Party and since I am co-hosting it, I need to be there.
Our local airship did decide to host a Steampunk Tea Party at Kerr Park on Sunday, where we will be showing support for Occupy and handing out free tea and cookies.
