I'm really sorry about ditching last night; I was really in no condition to diary mentally or especially physically. I think hating where I work & my life overall is beginning to affect my health. Anyway, let's move onward & upward, AND I've got a long weekend ahead of me because I get Monday off for fall break!
Let's get historical. On October 14, 1964, civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. was named winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. Repeating this fact will hopefully precipitate J. Edgar Hoover spinning in his grave. ;D Countdown contributor & sparkin' American hero in my book, John Dean, is 73 today! If you're on teh Twitter & are not following him, why the spark not?! :D And, appropriate of nearly nothing except for a desperately - needed good laugh...
Let's Countdown! :D
#5 "Occupy Wall Street" AKA "Showdown Postponed" - The "clean up" of Zuccoti Park was postponed, but the cracking of bones & running over by police scooters commenced when protestors descended on the actual Wall Street. So, I'm a little confused. They hadn't done this kind of thing before, had they? Why did they run the risk of the NYPD having an excuse to be violent? 15 protestors were arrested, a few were punched, and another was run over. A NYC city councilman was in the park today! So, the guy who was run over was descended upon by cops after he kicked the scooter over that had just run him over? Well OK then. *&^%$#@! Mayor Bloomberg is accusing officials of threatening the owners of the park with some sort of retribution if they attempted to clean the park & move the protestors. Gee, that's such a Louis XVI & Marie Antoinette response. ;D Doesn't his S.O. work for them or something? At the risk of sounding like an ultra maroon, why do protestors have to be vacated to clean a park? Occupy Denver efforts turned ugly, too. The park was closed, and protestors were arrested. There's Occupy Chicago! :) Ryan Hoffman is the co - author of the declaration that was written, and Michael Tracey, a free - lance journalist for The Nation was a witness to the horrible events in NYC earlier today. A group of protestors decided to march on Broadway while others decided to stay in the park. Did the officer riding the moped know he'd stopped his vehicle on some poor dude's leg?! Officers in Denver were in full riot gear to drive the protestors away from where they were.
#4 "Observer Attacked" - OK, some police or other spokesperson type is saying the guy run over put his legs there on purpose. Yea, that blood stain left on the pavement was an especially festive touch! *&^%$#@! Yetta Kurland is the attorney for the gentleman under the moped; she's been trying to contact him day but hasn't been able to as of yet. Well, the dude's probably in the hospital & possibly good & drugged up. Look at the cops in the video surrounding the guy on the ground to prevent pictures from being taken. I imagine they knew that someone screwed the pooch on that score!
#3 "Protest Movement?" AKA "Politics of Protest" - I'm admittedly on the cynical side, but I have a very difficult time believing that Tim Geithner's had any sort of "come to Jesus" moment as far as Wall Street regulation - especially after reading & hearing about what he did in dealing with President Obama on his more tough suggestions on how to control all these "too big to fail" financial institutions. Again, Tim Geithner played a role in the initial financial collapse in the first damn place! Where are these increased punishments or "policing" of which Secretary Geithner spoke? Uh, I'm not recalling that. SOS Clinton tried to lecture some business leaders, too. Yea, they were the biggest contributors to her campaign for the Dem nomination in 2008, so I'll take what she says with a quarter grain of salt. The DCCC is telling folk on their website to "Stand with Occupy Wall Street" - just long enough to help us win then off with your heads. ;D Our Great Orange Satanic Leader still hasn't gotten the no - tie memo. Keith doesn't recall seeing those more harsh regulations, either. :) Markos said people are getting to realize what "Occupy" "demands" are. Oh Markos, the DCCC won't stop being Wall Street water carriers.
#2 "Going Global" AKA "Tomorrow the World" - Demonstrations in 952 cities all over the world are planned for tomorrow in solidarity with "Occupy" efforts. And, not to take away from what's going on in this country, when a bunch of Italians get together to chant & protest, it just sounds bitchin'! :D Jamie Kilstein's in studio to talk "Occupy." An "Occupy" party is scheduled in Times Square tomorrow. Will a ball be dropped at the stroke of some...time? :)
#1 "Special Comment" - We get a part deux - kind of - of what Keith said just after the debt ceiling $hit when he told people to sit in, protest, boycott, etc. Hey! Who's that dude with the tie?! :) The dude with the tie has seen Network, too, so that makes him OK in my book! So, where were the updates? Or, were the updates what led up to the repeat? Oh well - guess it doesn't matter.
