If you can't suss that the #occupy movement has many on the right seriously frightened, I don't know what to tell you. From William Kristol's accusations of antisemitism, to Pat Robertson's foaming about the Satanic Hand of teh Obama, to this little excursion in the Canada Free Press:
Trained in the fine art of Civil Disobedience by Ruckus Society anarchists; paid for by George Soros and the Tides Foundation, among others, aided and abetted by street fighters like Code Pink and Greenpeace, count on OWS as a permanent part of society until Obama and his masters perfect the fundamental Transformation of America through Marxism.
the fear stench is become overpowering.
And of course, there's a lot of fear in the hearts of the true targets of the ire of the #occupiers: the financial sector.
This facebook posting calling for protests at the scheduled appearance of a representative of Goldman Sachs has led to the cancellation of the appearance:
A Goldman Sachs analyst who planned to talk to students at his University of Vermont alma mater about careers in the financial services industry canceled his appearance after backers of the Occupy Wall Street movement threatened protests, a dean said Monday.....The cancellation came after activists with Occupy Vermont, which is affiliated with the Occupy Wall Street movement, posted messages on Facebook urging supporters to attend Ares' talk and "make our voices heard about the corruption of Mr. Ares' employer and the fact that there are plenty of opportunities for business students to use their skills while actually making the world a better place."
Heh.
UPDATE: Occupy Vermont responds to accusations of suppressing free speech
Harvey Silverglate, a Boston lawyer and chairman of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, said by effectively pressuring Ares to cancel the talk, the activists involved were likely involved in “a conspiracy to restrict free speech.”
in an open letter published to the Occupy Vermont website:
As one of the Occupy Vermont participants who first alerted our community to Mr. Ares’ event, I’d like to point out that your characterization of our involvement is extremely misleading. We in no way wanted Mr. Ares to cancel his talk; indeed we were quite disappointed when he did. Our goal was to use the event as an opportunity to engage in a public discussion about Mr. Ares’ employer, which was the stated purpose of his presentation. Indeed, in our event invitation, we urged all attendees to read up on the activities of Goldman Sachs so that they might meaningfully contribute to a constructive dialog. As far as I know, no one from our movement called on his talk to be canceled; what we desired was the opportunity to offer alternative perspectives in an environment of intellectual freedom (a right that your organization purports to promote).
