Sen. Jim DeMint says, "All your uteri are belong to us"
Sen. Jim DeMint, feeling the pain of millions of out-of-work Americans, has broken with his party and introduced legislation that will lead to meaningful and long-lasting job creation.
Psych!
Less than a week after the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass an extreme anti-choice bill, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) has filed an anti-choice amendment to an appropriations bill related to agriculture, transportation, housing, and other programs. The Senate could take action on this measure as early as today.
Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, said Sen. DeMint’s amendment is similar to one the House of Representatives voted to insert into an agriculture bill on June 17. The amendment could bar discussion of abortion over the Internet and through videoconferencing, even if a woman’s health is at risk and if this kind of communication with her doctor is her best option to receive care.
And guess who was the target of Steve King's amendment and is now in DeMint's crosshairs ... who else? Planned Parenthood:
“Doctors at Planned Parenthood have been using telemedicine conferencing to prescribe RU 486, commonly known as the abortion drug,” King’s office said in comments on the bill. “These doctors are not present when the woman takes the drug and have never had any personal contact with the woman. The presence of this drug has led to more taking of human life. It was even more disheartening to learn that doctors at Planned Parenthood had found a way to make it even easier for a woman to get this drug.”
Yes, isn't it disheartening to learn that in a country where "87 percent of U.S. counties are without an abortion provider," women are allowed access to health care. Well they won't if Jim DeMint—and agriculture, transportation and housing—have anything to say about it.
