The Steve Jobs biography is coming out next year. HuffPo posted a few highlights. The one I want to focus on regards Jobs' attitude towards public education. He wasn't a fan.
If you were into the whole Steve Jobs cult of personality, hey, that's great. But let's lay off the hagiography for a second. Steve Jobs was just another wealthy douchebag who fancied himself an expert on education, just like his wealthy douchebag buddy Bill Gates:
Jobs also criticized America's education system, saying it was "crippled by union work rules," noted Isaacson. "Until the teachers' unions were broken, there was almost no hope for education reform." Jobs proposed allowing principals to hire and fire teachers based on merit, that schools stay open until 6 p.m. and that they be open 11 months a year.
That's right. Your iEverything pal hated teacher unions and saw them as an impediment to education. Just thought you should know.
Huffington Post article.
Bonus points: He told President Obama he would be a one-term President because he wasn't business-friendly enough:
"You're headed for a one-term presidency," he told Obama at the start of their meeting, insisting that the administration needed to be more business-friendly. As an example, Jobs described the ease with which companies can build factories in China compared to the United States, where "regulations and unnecessary costs" make it difficult for them.
You mean like Foxconn, Steve?
