Hat tip to Sunspots for thinking about this 7 months ago. Talking Points Memo mentioned this a few days ago, stating that retired WI-07 congressman and former House Appropriations Committee Chair Dave Obey might run, provided Kohl and Barrett pass it by. Obey also reports that both men told him to "quit pestering" them about it.
Well, why not? Obey may have a fiery temper, but he's sane! I've largely appreciated his representation in Congress for the past decade or so. Kohl, I think, is and always was a cipher, and Barrett did not seem to have the appetite for office that Walker did in 2010. Why not Obey?
Obey spoke to the Journal-Sentinel recently.
Obey cited three reasons why Walker has to go: limiting collective bargaining, gerrymandering and voter suppression:
Passage of a voter ID bill that Obey says will make it harder for many people, especially the elderly, to vote. "In my view, what they have done on the voter ID issue is not only a recallable issue; it ought to be an impeachable issue."
For good measure, here's a
Facebook draft Obey page.
What do my fellow progressive Badgers think?
