I am so tired of hearing about Obama not doing anything and not providing what he had promised. And, I must admit, that looking at all of the recent OWS unrest, it is hard not to place blame on both republicans and democrats.
But, what the president just did will provide more benefit than simply painting him in a better light for the upcoming election contest.
My pharmacist hubby (Gary) has been complaining to me for several months now about all of the shortages of medications. You would not believe the hundreds of meds that have been unavailable for almost a year now.
Many of our drugs are now made overseas and they have supposedly been behind due to a problem with raw materials, production, etc. According to Gary, it was far better when the USA made our own drugs and did not depend on other countries to be involved in their manufacture.
Obama's recent executive order is an important beginning step:
Obama signed an executive order in the Oval Office on Monday instructing the FDA to take action in three areas: broadening its reporting of potential drug shortages; accelerating reviews of applications to change production of drugs facing potential shortages; and giving the Justice Department more information about possible instances of collusion or price gouging.
Patient deaths have been blamed on the shortages, which tend to affect cancer drugs, anesthetics, drugs used in emergency medicine, and electrolytes needed for intravenous feeding. Hospitals have been forced to buy from secondary suppliers at huge markups. Surgeries and cancer treatments have been delayed.
