Let's put up our early prognostications on the Republican presidential field. Who will get the nomination and who will be their running mate. I'll start the proceedings by going out on a limb by saying Gingrich. Since he needs to be the conservative's Anti-Romney, and needs to credentialize himself with the wingnuts, I'll go further and predict he'll promise the VP role to Bachmann in exchange for her endorsement.
If he were to succeed in doing that, he would vault to the top in the GOP polls and his momentum would possibly then be aided by Perry and/or Cain dropping out. At some point (probably) these two will realize they're not going all the way and make the pragmatic choice. In Perry's case, he seems to dislike Romney, so he will do what he can to derail him, including bolstering the candidate with a real shot. As for Cain, he has a good relationship with the Newt, as indicated by their recent friendly "Lincoln-Douglas debate, so he may end up pushing what support he has left in Gingrich's direction. (Of course if this is the GOP ticket, Obama will win handily, but I believe any combination will be hard-pressed to even make a contest of it given how overreaching the Republicans have become, to the extreme point of all of them supporting anti-contraceptive laws -- which a vast majority of Americans would object to.
