This pleases me.
Last Thursday, a Fort Worth police officer (R. Frias) struck a protester (Anthony Momentoff) with a flag, after claiming that the protester had hit him with it.
Here's the original video of the event:
You can see that Anthony is moving to the right, and probably brushed Frias with the flag. Another comment was that Anthony was probably moving over to the pile of posters, so he could sit on those and perhaps not have them taken away (for more details, see the original diary here)
At any rate, Anthony Momentoff was released from jail Monday. Officer R. Frias has been put on review following the incident.
Fort Worth police said Frias has been with the department since March 2006. Police spokesman Sgt. Pedro Criado said the "incident is under review for potential violations of policy and procedure." He added the review would take several days to complete.
The video clearly shows Frias grabbing the flag away and smacking him in the face with it. This article has some good information, but the black eye that you see in the video was actually from a previous incident, not from the altercation with Frias.
So I give 'good ol' Texas boys' a hard time, but I'm really pleased with the speed of the reaction by the department. We'll have to wait and see how things develop.
