Every day Republicans say things that make me cringe. Every day I try to put it aside and believe that in this country being morally correct and caring about our fellow citizens will win. We truly are our brothers and sisters keeper. Two headlines caught my eye today that were even worse than usual: 1.) When he's President, Newt wants to have the power to order U.S. Marshals or Capitol Police to arrest sitting judges, if he disagrees with their decision. 2.) Romney says that cuts in welfare will not hurt the poor.
How can anyone who thinks this way be as close to the Presidency as they are?
Does Newt understand that we live in a democracy? What he is saying is bordering on dictatorship. Right now, he is making Bauchman look sane. I don't even have the words to respond to his ridiculous proposal. How can he possibly think that arresting judges (except due to criminal activities) would be allowed in this country?
Romney is so out of it with his $10,000 bets, that he thinks welfare does not help the poor. WTF! Does he not understand that these are actual human beings he is talking about and that without the assistance, this country would be performing a form of genocide? I assume his definition of genocide is taxing the rich.
I've followed politics since the Kennedy-Nixon election in 1960. I have never seen such crazy statements being accepted by the press and the American people, virtually without blinking an eye. Is this what we have come to in this country? While Goldwater, Nixon and Reagan said some crazy shit, they seem downright mainstream compared to the Republican party of today.
What really bothers me, is that in the past if someone said the unbelievable things that the GOP candidates say every day, they would have been called out by the press, and laughed out of the race by the electorate. Today it's just accepted. This country has moved so far to the right that drug testing people on unemployment is considered a good idea. Either a huge percentage of our population has been brain washed by Fox and right wing hate radio; or people have become totally brain dead in their ability to actually think things through and understand the ramifications of what the Republicans are saying. I have never, in my 60 years, seen so many individuals in this country being so selfish as they are now. I directly attribute this to Limbaugh, Hannity, Fox, etc.
I don't know about you, but I am deeply troubled by the direction this country is going; even with Democrats having the White House and Senate. How do we get people to truly care about their fellow citizens again; and not just worry about what it's going to cost them? How do we get people to actually think again? I am truly worried about this.
