A Navy tradition has caught up with the repeal of the "don't ask, don't tell" rule on gays serving openly in the U.S. military. The Navy said two women shared the coveted "first kiss" Wednesday when the USS Oak Hill returned home to its Virginia base. Marissa Gaeta of Pacerville, Calif., descended from the ship and shared a quick kiss with her partner, Citlalic (SEET-lah-leek) Snell of Los Angeles. The crowd screamed and waved Navy flags around them.

On the substance, Wilder couldn’t be more off base. But honestly, we’d pay more attention to this if he wasn’t known as Doug “in the Wilderness” Wilder. The last time he was relevant to the political process cell phones were the size of shoe boxes. Doug Wilder is dying for relevance – but we’re not going to help by paying attention to his rantings.
It's probably time to turn the America's team label over to the Green Bay Packers. PPP's newest national survey finds that no matter how you measure it the Packers are more popular than the Dallas Cowboys, and in fact the Cowboys are actually America's least favorite team. 22% of voters say the Packers are their favorite team in the NFL to 11% for the Cowboys, 8% for the Bears, Giants, and Steelers, 7% for the Saints, 6% for the Patriots, 4% for the Redskins, and 2% for the Jets. 24% say someone else is their favorite team or that they don't have a favorite. [...] It's a murkier picture when it comes to crowning America's most popular quarterback. When you just ask straight up who's your favorite quarterback Tim Tebow comes out ahead by the narrowest of margins with 15% to 14% for Eli Manning, 12% for Peyton Manning, 10% each for Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers, 6% for Michael Vick, and 4% for Ben Roethlisberger and Tony Romo. The Mannings are clearly very popular but since they're 'splitting the vote' it allows Tebow to finish first.

The pro-Democratic super PAC American Bridge has bought the domain and programmed it to redirect to various Web sites, a clever attack on the former House speaker. The link might take you to Freddie Mac’s Web site, Tiffany’s, information about Greek cruises , or to the ad Gingrich cut with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in favor of addressing climate change. Sometimes the page goes to a Post article about his campaign’s June implosion. American Bridge has now put NewtGingrich.com on Craigslist, jokingly offering to sell the site for somewhere between $10,000 and a million dollars to “someone with greater need than us.”

For the first time, astronomers have discovered two Earth-size planets orbiting a distant sun-like star—the smallest and, according to researchers, the most significant of the many hundreds of alien worlds detected so far.
