More below the fold:
Well, it's time for another lovely Winter's Veil celebration, promoting peace on Azeroth, goodwill towards sentients, and grinding Deathwing's face into the ground.
Yes, with defeating the final, fifteen-minute long Madness of Deathwing encounter with eight seconds left on the enrage timer, the Wreck List has defeated the Dragon Soul raid.
Here's what Taymatt had to say about the fight on the guild website:
Well, we took a few more shots last night to see if we could kill him before the reset, and sure enough, Deathwing is dead! Yay, us!
The Madness of Deathwing encounter is not easy in normal mode. Most of us in the raid group had completed the Madness encounter in Looking For Raid difficulty, so we understood most of the mechanics, but the amount of dps and healing required in normal mode is very high. This is a fifteen minute fight, and we killed him with only eight seconds to spare on the enrage timer after bloodlusting twice and having the healers do something like 13 or 14K dps combined.
The way this fight works is that Thrall and the Dragon Aspects help you as Deathwing tries to claw his way back out of the Malestrom, where he fell from the sky. Each Aspect is flying over a platform, and you have to leap to each platform to "kill" Deathwing's claws and wings. After downing a particular platform, you lose the ability granted by the Aspect associated with that platform. Needless to say, there are a variety of corrupted old-world god adds that need to be killed and dealt with appropriately along the way. After downing four platforms, you switch to phase two, which requires careful handling of two more types of adds, and a quick burn, as the lower his health gets, the higher AoE damage he puts out. Ugh. Anyway, he's DEAD! Up next: heroic Morchak! :)
And here is the official raid report from Ninotchka:
The Wreck List Looking For Raid group has gotten professional and efficient enough that they can clear both wings of the raid with time to spare on Tuesday nights. If you have a character with a minimum 372 item level and you haven’t joined the fun yet, sign up for it! They had, I think, 21 people last week, it’s quite possible they’ll be able to make it an all-guild event fairly soon, since you never know with pugs.
Team Kael has killed Deathwing. All done, cataclysm over, we can go home now. Oh, except some stupid spirit healer rezzed him on the Tuesday reset so we’ll have to do it again. But not this week. We’re holding back on progression for a couple of weeks to accommodate holidays and accumulate gear and generally de-stress. I do have to say that both Spine and Madness are wonderful, intense fights when you barely have the gear to pull them off, as we did. On both of them we came within seconds of wiping when we pulled out our kills. Madness of Deathwing was a mere 8 seconds away from hitting the berserk timer. Both of these will get easier with gear, of course, especially if our tanks can reach the magical mystical 4-piece tier bonuses. Um. Not that I’m personally biased, of course. Maybe a little. A lot.
There is a raid on the calendar that I hope we can get lots of signups for, for those folks like me who don’t want to deal with roads and drunk drivers on New Year’s Eve. We’re doing Ahn Qiraj, inviting any characters who can walk in the door. The catch is that we’re all going to start the instance completely gearless, except for vanity items like festival clothes, chef hats or fishing poles. There will be younger folks in the raiding group, all ages and levels (who can walk into the instance) are welcome.
So congratulations to our raid team, and a happy Winter's Veil to everyone!
