It's hard to break out of the two party situation we're in. If we form a third party, it guarantees supremacy for the right unless they splinter as well. As long as they hold, it sure seems that we have to stay united with our loathsome leadership, and all the corruption currently built into our rigged/broken two party system.
So here's a crazy idea, spouted over a full sandwich at lunch by a friend of mine: "We should all just join the republican party, and have our politicians join it and run in it, and the two party system will basically cease to exist. It'll just be direct democracy."
So-- the idea of registering republican is hard. I dont know if I could do it, unless I was sure it was going to ...work. Can someone who knows the way party leadership exercises any control over constituents give us some detail on how it wouldn't work?
It might take an election cycle or two, and we'd be sleeping with dogs, true, (we'd have them sleeping with us too, which would drive them crazier than they are now) but maybe, just maybe, itd work? I struggle a lot with what to do about what our government has become. There just isnt much I can do with my vote. I can protest, but I am never sure thats effective. I could not vote, I guess. Theres just only so many solutions. Or, I could vote "republican" and in the process destroy their brand. Theres one I never ever ever ever considered.
Help me out here people.... Does this idea have a really fatal flaw (beyond congressional leadership, which might be a wash anyway) or do we just need to do it? All we need here is our registrations and our votes-- next election cycle I guess- its too late this time.. and maybe we could do this.
