With 93.57% reporting, it's Santorum 28,276 (25%), Romney 28,147 (25%), and Paul 24,325 (21%).
Results: AP | CBS | CNN | DMR | Google | NYT | Politico
8:35 PM PT (James L): Mitt Romney just won't go away. With 94.25% reporting, Santorum leads by just 28,452 to 28,400.
8:37 PM PT (James L): And with 95.38% in the hopper, Santorum leads by 28,895 to 28,841 for Romney. As Samuel L. Jackson once said... "hang on to your butts".
8:42 PM PT (Steve Singiser): The big update (from 92% to nearly 96%) came mostly from Story County (Ames). Romney looked like he could make up huge ground there early, but he made up about 160 votes, instead. That's why Santorum still leads. But there are still over two dozen caucuses to report in Story and Dubuque Counties. This is going to be an absolute freaking coin flip.
8:43 PM PT (Steve Singiser): Now up to 96.1% of caucuses tallied: Rick Santorum's lead has expanded to a whopping 118 votes. Santorum at 29,046, and Romney at 28,928. Wow.
8:46 PM PT (Steve Singiser): Back in the SSP/DKE labs, JeffMD has been hammering the abacus. A linear projection of the results projects that Mitt Romney should out-lean Rick Santorum at the tape. The projected final margin? 86 votes. Out of roughly 120-125 thousand votes cast. And, it has been confirmed, no recount of the caucuses.
8:48 PM PT (Kaili Joy Gray): The liveblogging continues in the next thread.
