In lieu of a congratulatory message to Mitt Romney on his eight vote victory, David Axelrod had this to say, captured nicely by BuzzFeed:
But it wasn't just Axelrod taking the gloves off. Today, President Obama
rebuffed the GOP and
gave a recess appointment to Richard Cordray, making him the nation's first consumer watchdog—followed by
his announcement of additional recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board. This is the kind of fight that can get you fired up—and it's no surprise that it was timed to come the day after Iowa's caucuses.
It was, however, a surprise that even though he won, Mitt Romney managed to make himself look weaker in the process. No Republican has ever had a more lackluster "victory" in Iowa—and none has ever faced the kind of campaign that President Obama is prepared to wage. But hey, at least Romney did get John McCain's endorsement.
