The January 19th issue of Rolling Stone names 12 leaders who get things done. There's certainly some room for arguing about a few of the picks, but by and large, the list seems pretty solid.
Here are "The Quiet Ones", with links to their individual profiles. Each profile has four sections: 1) What s/he's Done, 2) Admirers Say, 3) Enemies Say, and 4) Gives Us Pause:
- Andrew Cuomo, NY Governor
- Van Jones, Rebuild the Dream
- Kamala Harris, Ca. Attorney General
- John Kitzhaber, Oregon Governor
- Cory Booker, Mayor, Newark NJ
- Antonio Villaraigosa, Mayor, Los Angeles
- Peter Shumlin, Governor, VT
- Elizabeth Warren, Senate Candidate (Ma.)
- Janette Sadik-Khan, NYC Transportation Manager
- Paul Rieckhoff, IAVA
- Mary Nichols, Chair, California Air Resources Board
- Mark Shurtleff, Attorney General, Ut.
Each one of the leaders who are profiled have quietly amassed a decent record of pushing for (or creating) good policy and legislation. While there are some on DKos who would argue with perhaps Cuomo and Shurtleff, all of those who are profiled in the Rolling Stone article are certainly movers and shakers in their own way.
So, who did Rolling Stone miss? If you have an argument with one of the selections, who would you replace that person with? I'm particularly happy with Van Jones, Elizabeth Warren, and Paul Rieckhoff being selected.
