Here at Top Comments we strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it to topcomments at gmail by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
NOTE: Bowing to that newfangled DK4 stuff :-), you also may send nominations to the Top Comments group email. If you don't see a nomination you made to there in the diary, please pipe up - it means we're still trying to remember not to forget to check!
If you're planning on looking anything up on Wikipedia tomorrow, better stop reading and go look right now. Follow me below the dingledoodlesquiggliedividerthingie fold...
In two hours, at midnite Eastern time, the US Wikipedia site goes dark for 24 hours in protest. If you're like me, you've come to depend on Wikipedia as the last item in any search string you use on google... and for 24 hours, the site will be unavailable, as part of a blackout organized to focus attention on impending legislation that could strike deep into the territory of censorship.
FYI - I'd planned more of an extensive look at the the two pieces of legislation threatening internet censorship, Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA), until Life intervened in the form of a sick K1 (doctor's appointment plus trek to get lab test = no time left before K2 came home and occupied me). Fortunately, there's been a number of good diaries on the topic (see tag
SOPA), including these by
Chris Bowers and
kos.
According to the site sopastrike.com, over 7000 sites have stated they will participate in some way. This may include going completely dark, as in the case of Wikipedia, Reddit and Boing Boing.
As of now, it's not clear what action Daily Kos will be taking; I saw a comment by dKos staffer Jason Libsch which stated the site will take action, and to watch tomorrow for more. In addition, according to a tweet by @Netroots_Nation, Netroots Nation and Netroots Foundation will be dark.
Do you plan on being online tomorrow? If you have a personal or business website, will you be participating in the protest? Me, I have no website to add to the cause, but I'll be contacting my Congresscritters to let them know my thoughts on this potentially disastrous legislation. I hope you will too.

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
From Mnemosyne, just after last nite's TC was posted:
A beauty from blue jersey mom, who like everyone else got really tired of hearing Mittens going on in Monday's "debate" about "kill, kill, kill!"
From Ed Tracey:
In the front-page-story about President Obama's video ....... well, semi-congratulating the 90th birthday of Betty White - Reetz outlines the many reasons why she is a clear and present danger - and why she must be stopped.
From tofumagoo:
I thought hogtrader nailed it with his comment. The crowd booed at the mention of Romney's father having been born in Mexico, but I didn't see why until he pointed out that Willard Mitt is an anchor baby.
From arizonablue:
Heartfelt comment explaining reasons koosah joined Daily Kos and the Pootie Diaries are part of the reason, along with Bill in Portland Maine and the little yellow duckie!
From raina:
This comment by Tim DeLaney is what GOS is about: electing Democrats.
From Yours Truly, brillig:
Please please read Hunter's latest on [Rick Perry and Turkey]. In the comments, Lensy sums up the different kinds of "smart" Perry and Santorum have. Plus, Kimball Cross says just what I was quietly thinking.
kos says: "Daily Kos will be doing its part tomorrow, as part of an internet-wide day of action against efforts to destroy the freedom of the internet. We won't go totally dark, but we've got a clever "gimmick" up our sleeve!" angry marmot worries about gimmicks. :)
