Last night, Jon Stewart deciphered just what it was that made "family values" South Carolina Republicans vote for an adulterous Newt Gingrich.
How? By turning their hatred against adultery into something they despise even more: the so-called liberal media.
Because what comes next, ladies and gentlemen, is the moment when values voters' supposed disgust over the moral turpitude of those in American public life, is knocked out cold by their anger at the Right's supposed victimization by the media.
....
NEWT GINGRICH (1/22/2012): I was never a lobbyist. ... Newt Gingrich is a small business owner.
(exasperated) You're not a small business owner! Your small business involves selling access to the insides of Washington!! You're not a Washington insider?!? You! The former Speaker of the House, and Freddie Mac-consulting millionaire, are the Washington insider! When Washington gets its prostate checked, it tickles you.
Videos below the fold.
Al Madrigal then interviewed a
very enthusiastic Mitt Romney supporter.
Meanwhile, Stephen Colbert looked at how
Newt Gingrich attacked the media in his recent debates.
And after South Carolina, Stephen has decided to
end his exploratory bid for President, but there may be a hitch with his super PAC.
Then Stephen took a look back on
his rally with Herman Cain.
Jon then had on HHS Secretary
Kathleen Sebelius. It went long, so here's the unedited interview in two parts.
Part 1
Part 2
Stephen interviewed political scientist Bruce Bueno de Mesquita, who revealed that with his forecasting, he actually says Newt Gingrich will be the Republican nominee, not Mitt Romney. Interesting.
