Reps. Steven Palazzo (R-MS), Allen West (R-FL), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Jon Runyan (R-NJ) are sending this special video message to President Obama.
Ahead of Tuesday's State of the Union address, House Armed Services Committee Republicans released an online video urging President Obama not to veto attempts to prevent $500 billion in automatic cuts to defense spending.
“Tonight, instead of a veto threat, we ask you to embrace our solution,” said Rep. Steven Palazzo (R-Miss.).
Nice how they all pretend to be so respectful of the president, huh?
It's about the jobs, they say. Except that all of the things they would cut to save defense spending create far more jobs than the defense sector.
President Obama needs to continue to stand firm on his veto threat of any legislation to go around the deal Republicans agreed to, and passed as law, last August. These automatic cuts were agreed to by Congress in return for raising the debt ceiling. Everyone knew they had their fingers crossed behind their backs when they agreed to the potential of these automatic defense cuts, but that doesn't mean they should get away with this.
Not only is the right policy to force the military to cut it's bloated budget, it's right politically. The American public is far more concerned with domestic priorities for the economy and jobs than the military.
