A Lesbian Colonel will be joining the First Lady in a VIP box at the address.
She suffered though the hell that was imposed on LGBT solders and their families during DADT. So this must be something she never thought would have happened to her. To be recognized by the content of her character and not who she is. Hopefully this will encourage other LGB youth to look at the military as a career because in an age when jobs for youth are at an all time low and discrimination results in LGBT's being the highest percentage of homeless the military is finally an option for them too.
When don’t ask, don’t tell was repealed on Sept. 20, Col. Ginger Wallace thought it would mean she’d finally get to recognize the silent sacrifice of her partner in front of her colleagues and military friends.
The intelligence officer never dreamed it would get her an invitation to sit with first lady Michelle Obama at President Obama’s State-of-the-Union address at the Capitol.
But that’s where she’ll be tonight. And her partner of more than a decade, Kathy Knopf, will be watching from the White House.
More on the State-of-the-Union:
In December, Knopf got to participate in Wallace’s promotion ceremony, which apparently was the first reporting of such an event following the repeal of the policy that kept gay and lesbian military members from serving openly.
Why do I see stars in her future? :)
