Tonight's Republican response to the State of the Union will be given by Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, seen above as a young college-bound lad soon to be more interested in
smoking massive amounts of pot than in being the conservative grump we all know today. According to excerpts, he is to call Obama "pro-poverty", then will complain about how Obama is too divisive. No, seriously.
So let's get through this thing, shall we?
Here's a suggestion: let's all imagine Mitch Daniels is currently as high as a kite. This "pro-poverty", anti-division speech will make a lot more sense that way.
7:30 PM PT: Shorter Mitch Daniels: pay no attention to that Bush guy. What Bush guy? Ha ha ha—I was just making a name up. Fun me!
7:31 PM PT: Republicans are all about helping the little guy and young people, apparently. That's why rich people need tax cuts.
7:31 PM PT:
“As Republicans our first concern is for those waiting tonight to begin or resume the climb up life’s ladder. We do not accept that ours will ever be a nation of haves and have nots; we must always be a nation of haves and soon to haves.”
"And really, isn't just the promise of future-having enough? Sure, you're going to die long before you "have", but if you put your one remaining dollar in a bank account earning interest, in 5000 years you'd have a lot of money.
Ha! Just kidding. The fees alone would eat you alive. And banks really don't do that "earning interest" stuff anymore. Tell you what, just give me the dollar now and I'll invest it for you. I'll send you a check later, I totally promise."
7:34 PM PT: Daniels sounds like he's narrating a 1960's film for high school kids. I keep expecting stock footage of flags and hardworking non-union slave laborers.
7:35 PM PT (Kaili Joy Gray): The liveblogging continues in the next thread.
