From the New York Times:
Hacking Inquiry Widens to Times of London
LONDON — The hacking scandal at Rupert Murdoch’s British newspapers took a new turn on Thursday when a lawmaker said police investigations had spread to the flagship Times of London. The revelation came a day after lawyers said an e-mail referring to “a nightmare scenario” of legal repercussions from widespread phone hacking at the News of the World tabloid was deleted from James Murdoch’s computer less than two weeks before the police opened investigations.
The lawmaker, Tom Watson, from the opposition Labour Party, who has been a central figure in the inquiries into phone hacking, said in a message on Twitter that Scotland Yard had “confirmed to me they are investigating” The Times “over e-mail hacking.”
...
The development was significant in two regards: it focused attention on e-mail hacking rather than the illicit voice mail interception at the center of inquiries so far, and it suggested that the most august of the Murdoch publications in Britain was not immune from scrutiny.

Looks like Rupert should maybe shut down the Times too! Bwaha.
According to the BBC, the Leveson Inquiry is RECALLING the Times of London editor to answer more questions:
The editor of the Times, James Harding, is to be recalled to the Leveson Inquiry after evidence the newspaper had used email hacking.
...
It comes after the inquiry was told that a Times journalist hacked the emails of a police blogger, NightJack.
...
The Met said officers from Operation Tuleta, the force's investigation into computer hacking, have contacted Mr Watson.
It is understood that Sun editor Dominic Mohan is also to be recalled to the Leveson Inquiry into press ethics.

UPDATE 1:
From the comments, blue aardvark nicely sums up the significance of this latest:
Wow. The London Times. The Thunderer. What was for decades the most influential newspaper in England. It was the Establishment paper.
If the Times has gone bad it shows that Murdoch corrupts everything he touches, just like the decline of the WSJ...
UPDATE 2:
It turns out we can thank Kosack Brit in part for this latest scoop! Here's Brit himself in the comments:
Hey man, this is all about this: (http://www.dailykos.com/...)
Glad to say I was part of the movement! I talked to the guys at the Times and asked Watson if he was going to follow it up....
...
Around about the time the Night Jack saga was breaking - probably the day after my Kos diary. He explained some of the circumstances, and the crap legal advice they had.
I also saw Tom Watson and David Allen Green the next day. The former wrote the letter to the police. The latter raised the whole issue during his appearance at the Leveson Inquiry.
Pressure makes things happen.
We shall overcome.
