Oh-oh. I think I'm pissed again. Well, lets call it righteous indignation.
I just saw a commercial to enroll in a for-profit college and realized something. We're being capitalized on from birth to death. They got our past earnings by crashing the market and taking our homes and 401k's. Our present earnings are gone with unemployment. Now capitalists want our future earnings. The latest "growth sector" is to capitalize on our hope for the future, education. It's not enough that they got much of our past and present money, they want any money we make in the future. Yes, you can go into debt with student loans pimped by our own government. I hate to be a Negative Nancy but I think the one most likely to be enriched by that deal will be the for-profit education machine. You'll be back on the street owing thousands, in a job market where there are still multiple job seekers for every opening.
I can envision our lives being reduced to mere numbers on a powerpoint presentation in a boardroom. Our common experiences being converted to 'trends' that someone can capitalize on, whether it be displaced ex-homeowners (the rental market), the unemployed (for-profit colleges and temp agencies) or growing older (reverse-mortgages and Alex Trebek touting insurance come to mind) We're a commodity, we've been marketed to since childhood and conditioned to consume more with each generation. Corporate greed is insatiable, which leads me to believe that somewhere, someone is working on a presentation for the latest market, trying to figure out how they can get their hands on my estate after I die...
