The Florida Senate this afternoon approved the congressional and state legislative redistricting plans that were approved by the Florida House last Friday.
The Congressional plan now goes to the governor and the Legislative plans go to the Florida Supreme Court for review.
Expect lawsuits to fly, especially over the Fair Districts constitutional amendments approved in 2010 that require compact district that don't favor political parties or incumbents.
The legislature wasn't able to improve on their district packing done ten years ago, because they did such a masterful job back then and because of population gains and shifts, but they certainly didn't do anything to reverse the trend either.
And while the state House plan does pit 35-40 incumbents against each other in new districts, not a single state Senate district was drawn to the detriment of an incumbent.
For some previous analysis of these 3 plans, here a previous diary.
