Welcome to the Tuesday Coffee Hour here on Street Prophets. This is an open thread where we can hang out and talk about what’s going on in our worlds. Human beings can come up with interesting explanations of natural phenomenon. One of these can be found in a basalt formation in Northern Ireland known as the Giant’s Causeway.
According to the story, the giant Finn MacCool laid down the causeway to provide a path across the sea so that he could visit his lady love who lived on the island of Staffa in Scotland. Geologists, however, tell a somewhat different story about the 37,000 basalt columns. Their story begins about 61 million years ago with a series of massive volcanic eruptions. Molten lava poured from narrow fissures in the ground. The basalt lava cooled rapidly, shrinking and cracking into polygonal-shaped blocks.
This is an open thread. Feel free to share what’s happening in your life.
