Here at Top Comments we strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it to topcomments at gmail by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
NOTE: Bowing to that newfangled DK4 stuff :-), you also may send nominations to the Top Comments group email. If you don't see a nomination you made to there in the diary, please pipe up - it means we're still trying to remember not to forget to check!
It's been a while since I've done a music edition, and LOVE certainly is topic oft-sung. Here are a few of my favorite songs, about love of all kinds. Those of you who know my musical tastes might be surprised by what makes my list:
It Had To Be You - Isham Jones; lyrics by Gus Kahn Written in 1924, performed by many, Mr. Brillig & I danced to the Harry Connick Jr version.
In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel One of my favorite songs performed live. "In your eyes I am complete" ... how much more perfect can it be?
The Book Of Love - Magnetic Fields One of the most beautiful love songs ever. I first heard it in Second Life, sung by the amazing Phillip E. Mitchell. Peter Gabriel does a beautiful cover, but this poignant rendition by Airborne Toxic Event simply tugs at the heart.
The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - Ewan MacColl Popularized by Roberta Flack and covered by everyone, it really should be, IMHO, on everyone's True Love playlist.
(Everything I Do) I Do It For You - Bryan Adams Written for the movie Prince of Thieves. Tell me now, who doesn't want to hear the words "Everything I do, I do it for you"? :)
The End - The Beatles "And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make." Link goes to a version by Beatlejuice when Brad Delp was frontman, before his tragic suicide. Golden Slumber & Carry That Weight precede The End, which starts ~4:00.
What's on YOUR Love-list? Or the anti-list, if that's what strikes your fancy today?
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything
without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do
not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
From JanF:
In J Town today we were discussing Lego's decision to have "a line of blocks called Lego Friends, aimed specifically at girls. The bricks come in pastel colors, the figurines go to beauty shops". This comment by belinda ridgewood nails it.
From bronte17:
LeftHandedMan conjures some deja vu in this comment that should run in its own special box here at Top Comments every night for the next week:
The same motherfuckers can come back and do it all over again.
"We have to look forward, not back."
I think that's the sort of thing you see on a national gravestone.

The GOP is a wretched, malignant force in all facets of our politics. So are the bastards at Citibank and Wells Fargo and a slew of other institutions that seriously harmed this country for their bottom line. Nothing is going to make the Democratic Party more effective at beating them than a party-wide reboot of what it thinks is possible. The Right, and the worst of the Oligarchy class, should not be able to pick right up where they left off when a period of Democratic oversight passes.
From the post examining the TBTF "troubling documents" settlement, Yves Smith: Gov't is Lying to Us about Mortgage Settlement Release, It is "Broad" by bobswern.
From Inland:
From Kaili Joy Gray's FP article on the remarks of the Bishop of Sioux City, this one by the one who knows.
From Yours Truly, brillig:
Scott Walker invites the "grab popcorn" meme. Isara made me glad I wasn't eating while reading with this little kernel.
leu2500 sent in a nomination of a snippet of Noddy's diary on toilet paper. I don't include those (see: can of worms, open) even when they are as good as "it would be a fine balance between booze and butt wipes" but while reading, I found Diane in NoVa's comment informative. So there we go :).
