The Parable of the Corn
And it came to pass that a kernel of corn was planted in the earth
And the sun warmed the ground and gentle rain awakened the seed
And the corn began to sprout and grow, ever higher and higher
And among the corpuscles of corn a political force began to appear
And it was called the Green Party, as the party grew so did the plant - six, seven, eight feet tall.
And the Green Party took all credit for the success
And then ears of golden corn began to develop - due to the work of the newer Gold Party (they said)
And the new crop matured into a full and handsome bounty while the Gold Party claimed all glory
And autumn came and the stalk began to wither but the Green Party knew they could bring the good times back
And the Gold Party knew better, after all they had produced the rich harvest and they could do it again
And they fought and bickered, Green, Gold, Green Gold, each blocked from any action at all
And they gerrymandered for one party and fillibustered for the other - while the leaves continued to decay
And winter arrived and the stalk fell to the earth from whence it had come
And the last gasping molecules were still fighting, Green, Gold, Green, Gold.
