I have been an AT&T customer for multiple years with multiple products including cell phone, home internet, etc. I recently received the following text message:
ATT FREE MSG: Your data usage is among the top 5% of users. Data speeds for this bill cycle may be reduced. Visit www.att.com/dataplans or call 8663447584. I recieved this message 4 days ago during the current billing cycle.
Today I can not use stream/video whatsoever and my phone struggles to open web pages that are not specifically designed for cellphones. So you know, I can not watch games via NHL Gamecenter App, an investment over $100 from NHL.com. I also can not use that button that every iPhone has on its main screen, YouTube, a reason I purchased the phone. I am being serious when I say I can not stream or YouTube: Videos will not load.
So I am thinking I must be using tons of data, right? WRONG. As of right now I have used 2.68 GB during the billing cycle.
Let me break this down a little. My plan is unlimited data. I have been paying for unlimited data for years. AT&T offers me unlimited data or I could drop down to 3GB of data for $30.
So basically AT&T is saying if you didn't buy 3GB and opted for unlimited TOUGH SHIT, that is what you are getting. Seriously?
Anyway, I call them for an explanation. I am told three things:
1. I can not cancel my plan without paying the $400 something fee.
2. I can not be "un-flagged" for data usage despite not even reaching the 3GB threshhold for the billing cycle.
3. And I quote, "every contract has a loophole, and even though AT&T said "unlimited data" it can reduce or remove internet access when needed".
I know people bitch about multimedia service providers but this seems WAY over the top for me. What do I do?
