Morning folks, Li'l TexMex here and I will be updating you on the conference proceedings.
I went to the early bird meet and greet last night and met some fantastic folks. I met and had a extended conversation with Tom Henderson the founder of ShelterBox form Cornwall. It was in interesting conversation and I was awed at what a humble, down to earth guy he was. I also had the chance to talk to other ShelterBox Rotary volunteers and shared "lion stories" with one fellow. I won't be naming names out of respect to the privacy of the Rotarians. However I will name names of our ShelterBox Response Team members. Mainly because they need the visibility.
I actually got to meet Yi Shun Lai! Woo!
Yi Shun Lai @gooddirt
I couldn't believe when she came up to me and threw her arms around me and said,"Wow, you are actually here!"
More on this over the squiggle.
She said when the going got rough during the Haiti crisis, She said to her husband, "Look TexMex is still blogging about us on the Daily Kos! If she can do it so can we." Needless to say I could have just broken down in shame for my meager blogging efforts compared to the work she does on the ground.
No but!, She grabs me and spins me around to the small crowd and says, "This is Elsa Cade, she raised thousand of dollars for us! She is got us noticed on the Daily Kos!"
So I throw that back to you guys. She loves the Daily Kos and we love her back!
Yi Shun Lai is a ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) volunteer based in New York. After tornadoes and storms ravaged the Southeast of the United States last May, ShelterBox was quick to respond and Yi Shun Lai was one of the first on the ground.

‘Sheet metal was wrapped around trees and telephone poles, entire houses were shifted off foundations, and mobile homes sheared wide open. Trees were twisted and hacked off into matchsticks,’ said Yi Shun Lai. ‘The people were simultaneously hopeful and desperate. They were extremely grateful to have the help of ShelterBox as they began to rebuild their lives.’
Well I finally got this diary started. My computer was not working so well and the internet connection in my room sucketh, so I will update later on when I have something better than...
"hey I ate breakfast."
But things are better now, the morning is for the ambassadors to go on a morning rope course, which I will pass on due to a foot injury. I will go to the general session.
More later.
