M.I.A. recently released her new video for her song "Bad Girls" and it is an amazing piece of visual art.
If you have not seen it, take 4:11 to see it now:
The revolutions that the world witnessed as part of the Arab Spring perhaps are symbolically referenced here beyond the absolute coolness of the car stunts.
When revolutions break out, there can be forces that attempt to control the potential for chaos. And the car balancing and people balancing with cars both evoke a potential for tragedy while at the same time exhibiting unbelievable amounts of control.
You also see a shot of the Arabian horse on its hind-legs in the foreground with the swirling sand in the background, chaos and control all wrapped together to evoke feelings from the viewer.
The visual style of the video is phenomenal. For example, the panning of the Arabian rider in front with the autos behind is simply compelling video.
And at the end, with the car on its edge and the dagger dragging seems to leave one with a potential sense of foreboding as there can certainly be a fine line between chaos and control.
Just a brilliant video.
