Yesterday I stated in a comment that I thought any Dem Senator voting for the Blunt amendment should be primaried. Of the three Dem senators who did vote for this atrocity, Ben Nelson is retiring (good riddance), but there are two - Manchin and Casey who should be held accountable for their vote.
Normally I would be reluctant to suggest a sitting Democratic senator face a primary based on one vote, but the Blunt amendment was so radically repressive and so extremely right-wing that I have to question whether anybody supporting it really belongs in our party. There have to be limits to the "big tent" concept if our party is going to be seen as standing firmly for anything.
Even if such primaries do not succeed in knocking out these guys, a strong blowback from within the party might be enough to discourage such nonsense if the future. If there are no consequences for this vote, expect more of the same to be coming through congress.
Supposedly the Dem leadership let the Blunt amendment come up for a vote to embarrass Republicans. This is yet another lesson to be mindful of unintended consequences.
