I would draw attention to the word, usurp
Citizen's united just being a sign of this usurpation by the extremely wealthy.
Both parties have been somewhat guilty of kowtowing to the power of money but one thing for sure is that the Republican Party has accelerated this usurpation and "we the people" are largely ignored in the day to day business of congress. Try cuing with the professional lobbyists if you do not believe me; let alone "to be heard".
The current crop of Republican candidates are the worst of a bad bunch, they wish to throw the US on the European pyre of Austerity without any of the social safety nets. They will perpetuate the greatest heist of all time, if given the opportunity, as if the situation wasn't bad enough already.
I agree with Krugman, if we keep pandering to the rich then we will truly have a class riven society, any thought of the American Dream will turn to dust, I would go further and declare the idea of our Republic, dead on arrival.
We were not born to be lords, serfs or slaves, our founding principle was that we were was to be given equal opportunity, and that was what was exceptional about our Republic.
