Last week, Rush Limbaugh crossed the line when he repeatedly called Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute.” Ms. Fluke had tried to testify in front of Congress about a fellow Georgetown student’s medical need for contraception, and Rush and the rest of the extreme right-wing responded by insulting and vilifying her.
On Saturday, Limbaugh apologized, thanks in part to the efforts of our supporters and the Daily Kos community. While Republicans continue to find new ways to silence women’s opinions, women have refused to be quieted in the fight to retain our rights to decisions regarding our bodies and our health. Over twenty five thousand of you stood with us and signed our petition to tell Speaker Boehner that women’s health care decisions should be made by women, and Rush Limbaugh’s comments spurred $10,000 in small-dollar donations to our campaign. We helped send a message that abusive comments and hearings that ban women have no place in our political discourse.
Stand up for women and tell Rush Limbaugh and Republicans that they can’t scare us into silence!
Together, we are stronger than any extreme right-wing shock jock!
