It's been a busy weekend - we spent part of one day at the local International Costumer's Guild Meeting, sizing patterns for corsets. Itzl isn't getting a corset.
Then I mowed to trim the grass low enough for Itzl to walk comfortably. It took a while in the back because of downed tree branches from the wind storm we had Friday. Itzl couldn't go back there until I made it safe for him. But now, he can and I don't have to watch for stray dogs coming off the street into the front yard.
Then we went to the capitol to hang out on the fringes of the Rick Santorum campaign.
I do support Occupy, and am very much involved in furthering the goals of getting our elected employees to listen to us, their employers. I'm not so sympathetic towards to local Occupy group because they, in all my discussions and encounters with them, they seem to want to turn Oklahoma into another Oakland. This was no different, and I have to say the local police and even most of the people attending the rally were very forbearing towards the organized Occupy Oklahoma group. The worst that happened was a bit of shoving and a lot of shouting.
I was standing on the fringes because I didn't want to get into a situation where anyone bumped into Itzl, so I didn't really see much of what was happening. Being hearing impaired, I also didn't hear much of it. The people near me were very nice to repeat important things for me, even though they weren't completely sure about my sign and buttons. Itzl was wearing his "I: have a job, pay taxes, love America, am a responsible dog, and support Occupy - but I can't vote". That got a few laughs and opened up some discussion.
Yes, Oklahoma is a red state, as red as they come. But I think the average person here isn't all that red. They just don't know what else to be. They've grown up Republican - their parents and grandparents and great-grandparents were/are Republican, and chances are their children will be Republican. But they aren't happy with how the Republicans are perceived or what the candidates are doing. They just don't see that they have any other choice - they won't be Democrat because they see Democrats as weak and not different enough, and Oklahoma is totally a two-party state. Choosing any party other than Democrat or Republican means you are locked out of much of the political process here.
So we had some good discussions at the back of the crowd, then we went home.
I didn't get pictures of Itzl in the new-mown yard, but I got pictures of him here at work this afternoon.
Here, he's still limping some. He tends to limp when he wants to go fast. Here, though, there's a mushroom where there was no mushroom before and he has to check it out.
He's starting to put all 4 feet on the ground when he stops. I caught him just before that foot made a touch down. The sun shining through it makes it look more frail than it really is. Once his hair grows back, the sun won't shine through his skin that way.
And here, he's so interested in what he found that all his feet are planted on the ground.
