The Daily Bucket is a place to catch your casual observations of the natural world and turn them into a valuable resource. Whether it's the first flowers of spring or that odd bug in your basement, don't be afraid to toss your thoughts into the bucket. Check here for a more complete description.
Hey, wait for us!
This is Wisconsin after all, and we're coming out of an easy winter and a harder fought year. We have a big vision for our spring.
It seems to me that everyone else has beautiful bragging rights to wild blossoms, blooms, bugs, birds and buds popping out everywhere at the Daily Bucket. I'm jealous as heck, but this is our Wisconsin Spring.
I needed a short walk in the old growth forest of my beloved Kettle Moraine State Forest - Northern Unit, to see the evidence of spring. I'll find some green...somewhere...somehow.
Is there a song that starts with, Baby, I got nothing...?
Yes! I found green moss (that stays green all year round...)
and we got trees with wild curly hickory bark that still awaits new leaves.
There's a perfect promise of purple hepatica, a small and early wild buttercup, hiding somewhere under the leaves of fall.
I will celebrate now, Hey, buttercup...
Please, share with us about what is happening with your birds, blooms, buds and critters in your neighborhood. What are you hearing, seeing and smelling in your backyard or on your drive to work? Don't forget to mention the area you're from.
So...you feeling the pollen in your eyes or nose, yet?
