It's faboo to be back! :D Now, permit me to do semi - shameless diary plugging for yours truly.
By 9:00 a.m. IndianaNoPlace time, I'll be posting a non - Countdown, non - TRMS, non - "Beat" diary about another subject very near & dear to my heart, so your comments, recs, kudos, etc. would be muy appreciated. I'll give y'all a bit of a clue concerning the subject matter: Where's all the blue food?!
Let's look back on past March 19ths. On March 19, 1891, Earl Warren, the chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1953 to 1969, was born. Lordy, did he oversee some MAJOR previous SCOTUS decisions! On this date in 1931, Nevada legalized gambling. On March 20, 1931, some swell - dressed fellas from the East decided to head West! ;D On this date in 1953, the Academy Awards ceremony was televised for the first time. The winners list is pretty damn impressive! Finally, the woman who would not be IGNORED & took forever to sparkin' die is eligible for Medicare & Social Security today; happy 65th birthday to Glenn Close! ;D If you have no idea what I'm talking about concerning the "ignored" comment, shame on you!
On with The Rachel Maddow Show...
Hey! We get an Exclusive TRMS Special Report tonight! OOOOooooooo...AAAAAaaaaHHHHHhhhhh!!! :D
Ike gave a nuke speech in 1953? "Atoms for Peace"? O...K... Well, he saw enough war & death. Poor Harry Truman didn't even know we had the damn bomb until HE became POTUS. Ike wanted nuclear material for peaceful purposes only. Uh - huh... That's quite a map of countries with nukes! However, there are none in Africa, South America, Australia, etc. Many of those places began declaring themselves nuke - free zones in 1967. But, there's nuke material all over the damn place. A lot of that material came from us! Rachel went to Mexico to see nuclear stuff? O...K... Now, there is no more nuclear material in Mexico! Sarah Dickerson has the lovely duty of locking down all the nuke material we get from other places. She's not gonna end up like Marie Curie, is she?! Power plant material isn't considered nuclear weapons - grade stuff; research reactors have the REALLY icky stuff. OK, I know this subject's important, but my brain is beginning to poo out already.
Anthony Wayne is our ambassador to Mexico. He claims he wasn't especially worried about cartel types getting ahold of the nuclear stuff, but he's relieved the stuff is gone baby gone. In case y'all hadn't heard, the border between us & Mexico has a tendency to transport some less - than - legal stuff.
Here's our Espanyol lesson for today - Treaty of Tlatelolco. Can I just stick with "taco" or "burrito"? :) This treaty means no nukes in Latin America & South America. Mexico led that effort. Places with nukes won't bomb those places, either.
