By now, I’m sure you read that Clarence Thomas is hot all of a sudden because there are too many questions being asked on court. And just because he’s sat around like a potted plant for two decades, he wants everyone to follow. In actuality, I believe he’s really telling the women on the court to just shut-up and listen, here's why.
After the healthcare hearings, he said this according to A.P.:
"Maybe it's the Southerner in me. Maybe it's the introvert in me, I don't know. I think that when somebody's talking, somebody ought to listen."
So let’s parse for a minute. Is he saying that now that we have two powerful “Northern” women on the court, they are the ones being rude and should just shut-up and listen? Here’s more from
A.P.:
“He said the lawyers presenting their cases are capable and don't need guidance from the justices: "I don't need to hold your hand, help you cross the street to argue a case. I don't need to badger you."
Okay, so even though our justices have asked questions forever, now they are being accused of “holding hands” with or badging witnesses? Listen, I get that Thomas’s Tea Party wife is an advocate for appealing Obamacare and perhaps he didn’t like such strong rebuttals from Sotomayor and Kagan. I can’t play arm-chair psychologists here but it looks really personal. Check out this other statement from the same
AP article:
"I don't like to badger people. These are not children. The court traditionally did not do that. I have been there 20 years. I see no need for all of that. Most of that is in the briefs, and there are a few questions around the edges."
So let’s parse some more. Isn’t he really saying that he’s been on the court 20-years and all the right-wing talking points Scalia argued were okay? But now that these two brilliant, Northern, progressive, assertive women are “talking” it’s all of a sudden disrespectable?
I believe Clarence Thomas’ statements makes him the right-wing point man for the continue War on Women on the court. And if I could be a fly on his wall around the dinner table with his tea party wife, I bet he really says: “I wish those two liberal heifers would just sit down and shut up.”
But since I’m not that fly on his wall I’ll just continue to ask him this:
Why this; why now?
