Has your life been affected by smoking or smokers in your life?
Feel like providing a supportive place for quitters and would-be quitters to hang out? If so, we would love to have you write a GUS diary or host an open thread! Please sign up in the Butt Can (Tip Jar), and name the day and time that works for you (AM, PM, late-night, early-bird, lunchtime, whatever...)
Diarists in regularly-scheduled time slots are listed in bold.

Help!! As you can see, we have a ton of open slots on the schedule. If you can spare a few hours, please consider hosting! Not sure where to start? Go here to find out how to write a GUS diary the easy way, or just ask for help in the Butt Can (Tip Jar). Seriously, it doesn't have to include specific elements or require all sorts of fabulous diary formatting skills. The regulars will make sure stuff gets carried over from diary to diary, so if you want to just tell your story or provide an open thread and host for a few hours, that's cool too.
Just thought I would try to help out a little since there is a large empty space on the schedule[pronounced the British way with an "sh" rather than and "sk" as per somebody's instructions that I cannot quite remember at this moment.] There were several comments in Vacationland's great diary yesterday that I wanted to respond to but I didn't get to it until an hour or so ago. What happened to Monday? Oh. Right. Taxes. Wore me out.
But here I am all chipper and bouncy with a few words of encouragement to the new quitters that have been showing up recently. This is my third quit. My first and second were 4 years and then 3 years long. This one is momentarily to be 10 months long...
I have been quit for 9 Months, 3 Weeks, 6 Days, 21 hours, 42 minutes and 9 seconds (302 days). I have saved $1,590.24 by not smoking 6,058 cigarettes. I have saved 3 Weeks and 50 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 6/12/2011 7:02 PM.
See, in just a few moments, it will be 10 months, $1600, 6,000+ cigarettes long. [and I am going to try to capture
QuitKeeper at that exact moment....and post it here]
On my first two quits I would have dreams of smoking and wake up in a panic only to breath a great lungful of fresh air in relief. This morning I woke in the middle of a conversation where I was encouraging a friend to quit. "Start the night before, then sleep in for a couple hours. After that, the first day or so may be a little rough but it just gets easier. The hours become days, become weeks, turn into months...." Just don't think you can smoke just one, because "just one" is all it takes to start the habit right up all over again. Ask me or anyone else here who has had several quits [ and it is not something I am happy about, I wish I had quit once and never started again...BE CAREFUL]
So when I got craving at the beginning I would turn my attention away and force myself to do something else. I get a lot more done now.
This is one of the things I do to distract myself
