My daughter rescued a puppy from one of her neighbors. It's not that the neighbors were abusing the dog so much as just letting it go feral, the way they did their other dogs. They've got 2 or 3 adult dogs that are feral and not well socialized. They feed them and keep them chained up but don't otherwise interact with them.
Every now and then, they have a litter of puppies that disappear (run away, get given away or sold, we don't know), except for this one. He's about 6 weeks old and wormy as all puppies are, especially ones whose mother has never seen a vet. He had a few ticks (we're spraying my daughter's yard for ticks and fleas, just in case since it's her next door neighbor), and was dirty, so all he needs is de-worming, de-ticking, and a bath and food.
My daughter gave him all of that.
He's still at my daughter's house. I will pick him up tonight and take him to the vet and then home to meet Xoco. If he gets along well with Xoco and Itzl, I may keep him, as I would like a larger outside dog.
If Xoco doesn't get along with him, and really she's the one I worry about the most, then I'll train him up and find a new home for him. There are a lot of people who want a dog I've trained so I have no worries about finding him a home.
I call him a stormy puppy because he snuck through the fence onto my daughter's porch during a storm and his markings look sort of like storm clouds.
