On February 26, 2012, 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman while walking back from a convenience store in Sanford, Fl., where he purchased a pack of Skittles candy and iced tea.
Yesterday, April 10, 2012, the two attorneys representing George Zimmerman held a press conference to announce that they would no longer represent him because they were unable to speak with him over the previous 48 hours. The attorney’s also mention their ex-client may have called Sean Hannity, as well as speaking to the prosecutor investigating the shooting.
Today, April 11, 2012, Special Prosecutor Angela Corey announced that George Zimmerman was arrested and will be charged with 2nd degree murder.
Last night on the Fox News show “Hannity”, Sean Hannity made a brief comment regarding the phone call he received from George Zimmerman.
HANNITY: “I want to set the record straight about a couple of things. Now for a few weeks we have been pursuing an interview with Mr. Zimmerman to give him a chance to tell his side of the story. Now yesterday I was contacted by an individual that we in fact believe was George Zimmerman. He reached out to me, we spoke on the phone about his case, and I agreed not to report on the contents of that conversation. That's it. I know nothing about his relationship with his now former attorneys.”
For several weeks Sean Hannity and Fox News have been defending George Zimmerman while demonizing and disparaging the victim, Trayvon Martin. Hannity has been trying the case in public, on his own show, based on his own opinions while having no evidence.
But now, there has been an arrest and George Zimmerman will be tried in a court of law.
Sean Hannity said on his TV show “I agreed not to report on the contents of that conversation”. After Hannity’s conversation with Zimmerman, events moved fast, Zimmerman’s two attorneys quit the case and less than 24 hours later Special Prosecutor Angela Corey announced that Zimmerman had been charged.
Sean Hannity will most certainly be called to testify about the conversation he had with George Zimmerman by the Special Prosecutor on what was said during the phone call, and chances are the conversation was also recorded since Fox News is owned by News Corp who has admitted to recording conversations in the past.
The Trayvon Martin murder has caused protests all across the country, including here in Las Vegas, and in some cities the protests have drawn tens of thousands in support of the victim, Trayvon Martin, and his parents, who have been asking for an arrest and a trial.
This trial will have a national spotlight on it not seen since the OJ Simpson murder trial in 1995. And if the outcome is the same in this case, there is a real chance that race riots could break out all across the country. And Sean Hannity, along with other right wing pundits, will be fanning the flames just as we’ve seen them do in the past with Health Care reforms, promotions of anti-government protests in Washington DC with the Tea Party, and the hysteria they created with the Mosque that was built two blocks away from ground zero in New York where the Twin Towers once stood.
Former President George W. Bush once spoke of ‘Justice’, and said, "God is not on the side of any nation, yet we know He is on the side of justice. Our finest moments [as a nation] have come when we faithfully served the cause of justice for our own citizens, and for the people of other lands."
George Zimmerman was arrested and he will be charged with 2nd degree murder, there will be a trial, let Justice prevail.
